Miss Amy W. Goss » Bienvenidos a todos

Bienvenidos a todos

¡Bienvenidos a la clase de español. Welcome to Spanish class.
Welcome to College Prep Writing.

Soy Miss Goss, su maestra de español. I am Miss Goss, your Spanish teacher

This is my 4th year at South and I have been teaching for more than 25 years. I taught for Guilford County Schools beginning in 1994, Thomasville City Schools beginning in 1998, Randolph Community College beginning in 2013, and now for Davidson County Schools beginning in 2018. I'm certified to teach Spanish (K-12), English as a Second Language (K-12), and high school ELA.

This semester I will be teaching Spanish 1 and Spanish 2 and it will also be the first time I've taught the College Prep Writing course. I am extremely excited about this amazing opportunity for our Wildcat students. Please, bear with me as we work out the kinks in this very first section of College Prep Writing at SDMHS. One of the things I'm most looking forward to with the Writing class is helping the students develop a portfolio they can take with them as they prepare for college classes. My schedule this semester is as follows:

1st period: College Prep Writing (Honors)
2nd period: Planning
3rd period: Spanish 1
4th period: Spanish 2

Personally, I grew up in a rural county in the northeastern part of NC, Bertie County (you may have seen Bertie County peanuts at a Lowe's Foods). I moved to Greensboro to go to college at UNC-G where I majored in Spanish and minored in English. I stayed in Greensboro after graduation until moving to Randolph County where I've been living since 1998.

I enjoy traveling and I've been to Ecuador (a Spanish-speaking country) three times in my life, once as an exchange student, once as a tourist, and once as an interpreter for a church mission trip. In addition to being a Spanish teacher, I am also a language student. Not only did I study Spanish and English in college, I also studied Latin and German. The language I am currently learning is Romanian. Because of that, I've been to Romania twice to attend language school, once in 2014 and once in 2015. When I tell my students that I understand what it's like to learn a language, I mean it.

I've made it to half of the 50 US states in my lifetime. My goal is to visit all 50.

I am looking forward to a great semester! Go, Wildcats!
