Camp Cardiac

Camp Cardiac and Camp Neuro, run by local medical students in over 30 cities nationwide, serve as an ideal introduction for any high school student interested in exploring a career in medicine.

With a focus on both education and real world experience, Camp Cardiac provides students with a unique opportunity to learn directly from experts in the medical field.  In addition, this 1-week summer day camp provides a foundation for heart healthy living with an emphasis on both diet and exercise.  Although Camp Cardiac's primary focus is on care and maintenance of the heart, it provides an excellent starting point for careers in all fields of medicine.

 

Cannon Music Camp

A three-week music-filled retreat in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, Cannon Music Camp offers the most comprehensive course of musical instruction in the Southeast, with intensive college preparatory work in performance and music theory. Campers participate in daily ensemble rehearsals and music theory classes in an atmosphere that elevates everyone’s musicianship. Equally important is the one-on-one instruction each camper receives in weekly private lessons.  Open to serious student musicians who are rising high school freshmen to rising college freshmen. Applications open December 3rd and close the day prior to camp.

Established in 1973, the Governor’s Page Program gives high school students from all over North Carolina the opportunity to come to Raleigh for a week of hands-on participation in their state government. We want the Page Program to represent North Carolina’s diverse communities and help inspire a new generation of leaders.

 

How to Apply

Complete your application online in one sitting. Be prepared to provide a first, second, and third choice for the week you wish to serve. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until the program is full. Two online recommendations are required. One recommendation must be from staff or faculty at your school unless you are homeschooled then it can be from a teaching adult including family. The other recommendation can be from any non-relative adult. Incomplete applications or applications without two recommendations will not be processed.

The Governor's School of North Carolina is a 5½-week summer residential program for gifted and talented high school students, integrating academic disciplines, the arts, and unique courses on each of two campuses. The curriculum focuses on the exploration of the most recent ideas and concepts in each discipline, and it does not involve credit, tests, or grades. Students are selected to attend through a competitive process after being nominated by their public-school unit or non-public school.

Eligibility

Only applicants who have completed their junior year or senior year in high school will be considered. Applicants must be of good character, demonstrate qualities of Americanism and Leadership, and present a neat appearance. Any American Legion Post can sponsor one or more students. Eligibility

  • Must be a junior in high school at the time of her selection.
  • Must be between the ages of 16 and 18 years.
  • Must be ranked in the top 1/3 of her class academically or have at least an unweighted GPA of 3.0. 
  • Must be residents of North Carolina for a minimum of 1 year prior to their selection for the program and be attending high school in North Carolina.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or a legal resident of the United States.
  • Must be mature individuals capable of setting priorities and be in good physical condition to withstand the week's intense activities and demanding schedule. If there are concerns, please contact 
  • Preference will be given to children of veterans of the U.S. Military. 
  • If selected, citizen must attend an orientation session.
